Request for New Coronavirus Vaccination

Dear Students

The new coronavirus infection that has been raging since last year has completely changed your university life. Under normal circumstances, you would have received direct guidance from your professors, learned together with your peers, and deepened your friendships. I’m sure that’s what you had in mind when you thought of university life. However, we are now in a situation where human contact, which is the catalyst for human growth, can threaten even human life.
As one of the solutions to this situation, Gunma University is promoting vaccination in the workplace. By having as many people as possible vaccinated, we will be able to bring university life closer to what it used to be. Once the risk of infection is greatly reduced by securing herd immunity at the university, we believe that face-to-face classes, experiments, practical training, and extracurricular activities, which have been restricted until now, will be able to return to normal.
Currently, an “Indian variant” of the disease, which is extremely infectious, has been confirmed in Japan and is expected to spread nationwide. Many of the mutant strains are easily transmitted to younger people, and the number of infected people in their 20s is increasing. In addition, vaccinations conducted by municipalities are given in the order of increasing age, for example, citizens in their 20s in Maebashi City have to wait until around October. Vaccination is not compulsory, but I would like to encourage people to receive the vaccine at Gunma University as much as possible. As the vaccination center is located in Takasaki, we ask for your cooperation so that we can get back to a safe and secure university life as soon as possible.
There have been many “false rumors” about the side effects of vaccinations posted on social networking sites, etc. I hope that you will not be misled by these rumors and will calmly make your own decisions.

Yasuki Ishizaki, President of Gunma University
