Program of Japanese language education

In order for international students to study and conduct research smoothly, three Japanese programs are provided by the International Students Center. Below are the program names along with detailed explanations.

1 Preliminary Intensive Japanese Course for Monbukagakusho Scholarship Students Japanese Government-Scholarship students on the recommendations of Japanese Embassies (research students, teacher-training students, Japan-Korea Joint Program for Student in Science and Engineering Departments) and others Two course levels are offered.
P1 Program for Japanese beginners
P2 Program for those who have achieved Level 2 of Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) (equivalent to approximately 600 hours of Japanese study).
2 Japanese Language and Japanese Studies for Undergraduates Undergraduate students(exchange students, graduate students, and researchers. Permission is required.) Credits obtained in this course are granted as Foreign Language credits or credits for Interdisciplinary Studies in General Education.
This course is for those who are considering taking JLPT Level 2 or who have completed JLPT level 1.
3 Supplementary Japanese Course for International Students International graduate school students (Available for research students.) Classes will be conducted on both the Showa and Kiryu Campuses.
4 Japanese Course for Career Development Program for Foreign Students from Asia Career Development Program for Foreign Students from Asia (Available for undergraduate students, graduate students and research students). You will study business Japanese on the Kiryu Campus.

1. Preliminary Intensive Japanese Course for Monbukagakusho Scholarship Students

This course was created for Japanese Government-Scholarship (MEXT) students on the recommendations of Japanese Embassies (Research Students, Teacher-training Students, Japan-Korea Joint Program for the Students in the Science and Engineering Departments). An intensive five-month Japanese language program is available for Level P2 students in order to facilitate their research activities and for Level 1 students in order to assist them with their daily lives. These programs are offered Monday – Friday for 15 weeks. A Placement test, a Midterm test and an Assessment test are given.

2. Japanese Language and Japanese Studies for Undergraduates

These courses are offered to international undergraduate freshmen in order for them to acquire Japanese language ability sufficient for attending other courses.
Credits obtained in these courses are granted as credits for Foreign Language, Interdisciplinary Studies or basic subjects in General Education.(For more details, please refer to the [rishu no tebiki] ).International exchange students, international postgraduates and international research students are required to consult with the Course Coordinator and take the Placement Test beforehand in order to attend these courses.
The level of difficulty for these courses is equivalent to that required of students who are considering to take JLPT Level 2 (that is 70 ~ 80% of the full mark for Level 3) or who have passed Level 1. Classes are divided according to the purpose of learning such as conversation, composition, reading and comprehension.

3. Supplementary Japanese course for international students

This course is held on the Kiryu and Showa Campus.

[Kiryu Campus]
This course is available for international exchange students. Semesters start in April and October. Anyone who would like to attend this course is required to take the Placement Test.

[Showa Campus]
Classes are held on the Showa Campus. Postgraduates in the Aramaki area and research students can also attend. Semesters start in April and October. A placement test will be held only for new students.
