JR access to the Aramaki and Showa campuses

From Tokyo and Niigata via the Joetsu Shinkansen

Change to the Ryomo Line at JR Takasaki Station. The 4th stop after leaving Takasaki is Shin-Maebashi Sta. It takes between 70 and 80 minutes from Tokyo.

From Sendai and Tochigi via the Tohoku Shinkansen

Change to the Ryomo Line at Oyama Station. When you reach Omiya Sta., change to the Takasaki Line. Change to the Ryomo Line at JR Takasaki Station.

Via the Takasaki Line, the Joetsu Line and other conventional lines

The Takasaki Line has trains that arrive at and depart from Takasaki Station, Shin-Maebashi Sta. and Maebashi Sta. For trains that arrive in Takasaki and Shin-Maebashi, it is necessary to change to the Ryomo Line. It takes between 90 and 100 minutes from Ueno Sta. to Takasaki Sta. by a Rapid Transit (Kaisoku) Train.

JR Ryomo Line: Get off the train at Maebashi Sta. Get on a Kanetsu Kotsu bus bound for Shibukawa Sta. / Children’s Medical Center (Shoni Iryo Senta).
Aramaki Campus: Get off the bus at the Gunma University Aramaki bus stop, or the Maebashi Drivers’ School (Maebashi Jidosha Kyoshu-sho Mae) bus stop. It takes approximately 25 minutes from Maebashi Sta.
Showa Campus: Get off the bus at the Gunma University Hospital Mae bus stop. It takes approximately 15 minutes from Maebashi Sta.

Access by car or bus to the Aramaki and Showa campuses

From Tokyo

Nerima I.C. ~ Maebashi I.C., approx. 60 min. Exit at the Maebashi I. C. and head north on Nat’l. Rte. 17. It takes approximately 20 minutes to reach the Sekine intersection. Turn left at the intersection and drive 500 m. to the campus gate.

From Niigata

Exit the Kan’etsu Expressway at the Shibukawa-Ikaho I. C. and head south on Nat’l. Rte. 17. The campus is approximately 3 km to the Sekine intersection from the Tonegawa Bando Bridge. Turn right at the intersection and drive 500 m. to the campus gate.

From Tochigi and Ibaraki via Nat’l Rte. 50

Follow Rte. 50 into the suburbs of Maebashi and turn right at the Amagawa Oshima Intersection. Continue either on the Tobu Bypass or on Rte. 50 until you reach Rte. 17. The campus is approximately 5 km from the terminus of Rte. 50, and approximately 3 km from the terminus of the Tobu Bypass. Turn left at the Sekine Intersection and drive 500 m. to the campus gate.

Access to the Kiryu Campus

From Tokyo and Niigata via Nagano / Joetsu Shinkansen (approximately 2 hours.)

Get off the Nagano / Joetsu Shinkansen at JR Takasaki Station. Change to the JR Ryomo Line and get off the train at Kiryu Sta.

From JR Kiryu Sta. to the Engineering Faculty Campus:
Orihime Bus:
– Walk to the Honmachi 5-chome bus stop (at the intersection of Honmachi-dori and Suehiro-dori, approximately 10 minutes on foot) and get on a bus bound for Kiryu Girls’ High School. It takes approximately 7 minutes to reach the Gundai Seimon Mae bus stop. [Frequency: 1 bus per hour]
– From Kiryu Sta. Minami-guchi (South Exit): Take a bus bound for Umeda. It takes approximately 7 minutes to reach the Gundai Seimon Mae bus stop. [Only a few buses are available each day.]
– From Kiryu Sta. Minami-guchi (South Exit): Take a Hishi-sen Migi-mawari (clockwise) bus. It takes approximately 7 minutes to reach the Gundai-higashi bus stop. [Only a few buses are available each day.]
On foot: Approximately 25 minutes from Kiryu Sta. Kita-guchi (North Exit)
By taxi: Approximately 10 minutes from Kiryu Sta. Kita-guchi (North Exit)

From Asakusa Station via the Tobu Line

Take the Akagi Ryomo-go Express and get off the train at Shin-Kiryu Sta. (It takes approximately 110 minutes, all seats are reserved, and tickets can be purchased up to 10 minutes prior to departure.

From the Shin-Kiryu Sta. to the Engineering Faculty Campus
Orihime Bus (buses depart with each train arrival) : Take the bus bound for Kiryu Girls’ High School. It takes approximately 15 minutes to reach the Gundai Seimon Mae bus stop. [Frequency: 1 bus per hour]
By taxi (15 min.): Keep in mind that city streets may be crowded depending upon the time of day.
On foot (50 min.): This involves a long walk from one end of the shopping local shopping area to the other.
